1st Dibs on This Habitat Collection

Well it's been a busy few weeks but I am excited to say that I can finally share some pictures and links for a staging job I recently worked on. Someone had contacted me about staging a home that was completely vacant. I offered a few options, one of which was to stage with inventory and furniture from the Habitat Restore. They chose that option and the fun began!

First I met them at the house for a staging consultation. That's when I walk around and asses the space, make recommendations, then decide what type of furniture and layouts would work best for each room. Every home is different, and here we focused on these 3 impact rooms: living room, dining room, and kitchen.

The day before staging I walked the Restore floor and found pieces that worked together and fit my plan. That was a good practice in my "use what you have" training and philosophy. Whatever was available on the floor at that moment was what I could use. No time to make changes, order anything else, or shop around. I used only what was available - good thing the Restore has a lot of great pieces!

The day of staging I met the movers at the Restore to help coordinate the furniture pick-up. I worked with a team from Junk-A-Haulics, and they were fantastic! Everything was packed and unpacked quickly and very carefully. You can see them in action here :)

Then the fun part for me really began - rearranging the furniture and adding decorative touches through accessories. Once everything was in place the transformation was complete! It's amazing what a difference furniture makes in showing a home. Many home buyers have a hard time imagining themselves and their furniture in a space, so staging helps potential home buyers see the scale of a room with furniture, and suggestions how they can use it.

Getting Homes Resale-Ready

I haven't talked much about this part of my business on here yet, but this week the IRN has been doing a national launch to spread awareness about our Resale-ReadyTM service and so I wanted to share it with you. I use the same design principals as my One Day Room Refinements to help correct the most common decorating mistakes people make in their home. A Project Update

I'm excited to say that our first personal home project of the new year was to refinish the hardwood floors! It all started innocently enough, just peeling back the corners of our carpeting to see what was underneath. Then we couldn't help ourselves and just ripped it all out. 

Ever since we moved into our home we have been discussing the pros and cons of hardwood vs wall to wall carpet. I love hardwood for that timeless classy look, the design flexibility that area rugs provide, as well as easier cleaning when living with a very furry pet.

It's been a busy few weeks moving furniture, ripping out old carpet, and pulling a trillion staples. Things got much easier once we switched the tools we were using and started pulling staples with the vice grip shown on the stair below. That worked wonderfully and if you have a similar job in your future I'd highly recommend getting one!

Considering that our house is older we knew there was a chance for some bad stains and potential repairs, especially since previous homeowners had laid ceramic tiles directly onto the hardwood as shown above. There was a rough moment while they were working when they couldn't get the diamond pattern out. The tiles had trapped in moisture and darkened the wood underneath. They were afraid it went too deep into the wood and they suggested we begin discussing plan B. But luckily (so so lucky) for us they ran the sander a few more times and it came out! HORRAY!!

And as you can see they were able to work miracles with our 55 year old floors! The grout sanded up fine and it looks fantastic! The stairs are not done in this photo yet, they were finished today. I plan on showing more finished pictures soon, and you might guess that I will be posting information and resources for area rugs and runners in the future ;)
